Hiking Schynige Platte in Interlaken, Switzerland

Nestled in the heart of Switzerland, Interlaken beckons adventurers with its stunning landscapes and plethora of outdoor activities. From paragliding over turquoise lakes to exploring charming alpine villages, Interlaken is a haven for nature enthusiasts. However, amidst the bustling activities lies a serene gem awaiting discovery – the Schynige Platte hike.

On a recent escapade with my friend Bill, we embarked on this lesser-known trail, craving solitude and breathtaking vistas. Our journey began in Interlaken, a picturesque town sandwiched between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. As we wandered through its quaint streets, we couldn’t help but marvel at the myriad of adventures awaiting us.

The Schynige Platte hike, boasting a length of 10 kilometers and a staggering 1500 meters ascent profile, promised an exhilarating challenge. What set it apart, though, was the solitude it offered. Unlike popular trails teeming with hikers, we found ourselves immersed in tranquil wilderness, with only the rustling of leaves and chirping of birds as our companions.

Ascending steadily, each step unveiled a panorama of unparalleled beauty. Verdant meadows stretched endlessly, adorned with vibrant wildflowers dancing in the gentle breeze. Towering peaks stood sentinel against the azure sky, their snow-capped summits glistening in the sunlight. It was as if nature had painted its masterpiece, and we were fortunate spectators.

Despite the physical exertion, our spirits soared with every glimpse of the unfolding landscape. The trail, though demanding, rewarded us with moments of pure awe. We paused frequently, not just to catch our breath but to imprint the scenery into our memories, knowing that such moments of serenity are rare treasures.

Reaching the summit of Schynige Platte felt akin to conquering a personal summit. Standing atop, we were humbled by the grandeur surrounding us. As the day waned, we descended from our lofty perch, opting for the convenience of the train to return to civilization. The journey down was bittersweet, as we bid farewell to the untamed beauty of Schynige Platte. Yet, we carried with us memories that would last a lifetime.

That evening, as we settled into our camping site in Lauterbrunnen, the echoes of our adventure lingered. Surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls, we drifted into slumber under the star-studded sky, grateful for the day of serenity and splendor we had experienced in Interlaken’s hidden gem – Schynige Platte.
